Trade Deadline Marathon: Philly Gets a Point Guard (Finally!)
Updated: Mar 2, 2021
Philadelphia 76ers receive: G Delon Wright
Detroit Pistons receive: F Mike Scott, C Vincent Poirier, 2023 2nd round pick via PHI
Why the 76ers would do it:
The Sixers are in the business of championships, and it's clear that they're at least a point guard away from being a true contender. Wright is one of several veterans they've been linked to in trade rumors, which makes sense
The UNLV product can run an offense well, leading a putrid Pistons teams in assists per game at 4.9. He's also a solid shooter, hitting 75 of his 200 3-point attempts (37.5%) since the start of 2019-20. But perhaps most importantly, he's a quality defender with the length to switch onto bigger wings, and no mainstream metrics paint a negative picture of him on that end.
Why the Pistons would do it:
If Detroit can get value for players who are ruining its tank, you'd best believe it is going to do that. The Pistons have done a clever job of hiding their big picture intentions, making a splash in free agency and winning some marquee matchups this season too. But we know what they're really doing; the trade deadline is a perfect time for them to lean into that plan.
Wright might garner an additional second, something the Sixers would happily oblige if necessary. Getting out of his $8.5 million cap hit next year is definitely on the front office's mind.
