Predicting Disney: Brooklyn Nets

After a dream-like offseason, the 2019-2020 regular season has been nothing short of a nightmare for the Brooklyn Nets. $68,941,000 million dollars was spent on 20 games of Kyrie Irving, and fans watched a promising record of 42-40 regress to 30-34. Nevertheless, the injury-riddled Nets were barely able to secure the seventh seed in the East before the NBA hiatus. Fending off the Orlando Magic by a margin of .5 games.

Entering the resumed NBA season, the Nets roster has been gutted. DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie and Taurean Prince forwent the trip to Disney due to positive coronavirus tests, and Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and rookie Nic Claxton all had their season ended due to injury. Veteran wing Wilson Chandler opted out for personal reasons, which left the Nets organization with holes to fill up and down the roster.

Soon after the team departed for Orlando, veterans Micheal Beasley and Jamal Crawford as well as G League standout Donta Hall were acquired to play for Brooklyn. These signings came off the heels of long time Sean Marks target Tyler Johnson also signing with the team. Beasley will serve a 5 game drug suspension,

Eight Game Schedule

Nets vs Magic : L

RIght away, the Nets are faced with a matchup of consequence. Losing this game would not only automatically grant the Magic the tiebreaker between the two teams, but would also help them in their push for the seventh seed. The Nets have matched up well in the past with Orlando, albeit many games coming down to the wire. However, the Nets depleted roster projects them to be worse than the Magic. I expect Orlando to be more comfortable in the bubble and with their scheme, especially with the Nets still learning how to play under Jacque Vaughn.

Nets vs Wizards : W

The Wizards were already the worst team in the bubble, and losing Bradley Beal and Davis Bertans only widens the margin between them and the rest of the bottom feeders. Despite not being an All-Star, Beal's production 2019-2020 production was still through the roof, averaging 30 points again. After finding himself bench for the San Antonio Spurs for two years, David Bertans had a breakout year shooting the rock in the nation's capital this year. This is arguably the only game on their schedule where they'll have the best player, Caris LeVert.

Nets vs Bucks : L

After an Eastern Conference Finals defeat to the eventual Champion Toronto Raptors, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks have dominated the playing field . They have the best record in the league, and rank first in both Defense and average margin of victory. They dominated Brooklyn in the regular season, so in this matchup

Nets vs Celtics : L

Don't let a 2-1 head-to-head regular season record fool you. The Boston Celtics are the real deal. Armed with a lethal perimeter trio of Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum - all 20 point scorers - they have proved they can match up with any team on any given night. As for the Nets, they're at a disadvantage positionally across the board.

Nets vs Kings : L

The Sacramento Kings are once again in the Western Conference playoff hunt, as they aim to end their decade long drought. However unlikely that may seem - FiveThirtyEight gives them a 7% chance - their roster is still more talented when compared to Brooklyn, and Levert would have to pull off real heroics to eek out a Nets Victory.

Nets vs Clippers : L

After 5 games played, Micheal Beasley will finally be able to join Brooklyn for their showdown against the Clippers. One of the two LA powerhouse teams, the 2-seeded Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are sure to be a formidable threat. Leonard is known to load-manage/rest often, but I'm confident LA wins this one either way.

Nets vs Magic : L

Although the Nets have a better chance in this matchup with Orlando's only real team compared to the first, I still expect the Magic coming into this one thirsty for clinching the seventh seed. This late into the seeding games, the race for 7th could be tight, and I would side with the Magic pulling it out for the victory.

Nets vs Blazers : W

At this point in the year, it's not unlikely that the Blazers will be eliminated from playoff contention. All-Star Damian Lillard publicly announced before the bubble that he would not play if there was no chance for Portland to make the playoffs, and I expect him to make good on that promise if the circumstances were as such. Facing off against a diluted Blazers roster, Brooklyn can end the regular season with a bang.

Final Record: 32 - 40
