NBA players are like superheroes to us all. Their incredible abilities marvel us just like the superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Throughout the year we all constantly have the MCU in our minds, whether we are waiting on a movie or reading comics. We always need our superhero fix.
The NBA season and playoffs bring us moments that we never forget, which include players showing off their special abilities. NBA players can do so much and the talent continues to rise each year. They give us the superhero fix we crave and desire.
Why not continue to look at our Marvel heroes and see which NBA players seem to mirror them in different ways. This time let’s take a look at future Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving and Peter Parker aka Spider-Man.
Spider-Man is a great young kid who just wants to do good in the world and live his life as normally as possible. He has the ability to cling to walls, superhuman strength and he has his spidey sense. He’s a superhuman all thanks to a radioactive spider bite.
One of his most amazing abilities is the way he’s able to swing and weave through New York or in battle with the web he shoots out of his web-shooters. We can liken Spider-Man’s web swinging to Kyrie Irving’s ability to weave his way through defenders and get to the basket with such ease. Irving’s ball handling is excellent.
In fact, he’s one of the best ball handlers in the NBA. We could definitely argue he’s the best one. We often are left marveling at the fact that he’s quite unguardable. One minute you’re defending Irving the next minute he made his way to the basket, bobbing and weaving through everyone.
Much like how Spider-Man’s spidey sense warns him of danger before it officially happens (example: in Infinity War when he felt weird and didn’t feel so good, he knew he was about to get dusted before it actually happened), that gives him a huge advantage over the bad guys. Kyrie can read the defenders before they realize what he will do and instantly take advantage of them.
While Utah Jazz shooting guard Donovan Mitchell has claimed the Spida nickname, Kyrie Irving can definitely claim the mantle as the NBA’s most agile superhero Spider-Man with his incredible ability to swing through defenders.
