Trade Deadline Marathon: Day 9.1
Knicks receive: Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert, Kosta Koufos, Patrick Patterson and Hamidou Diallo
Thunder receive: Courtney Lee, Noah Vonleh, and Damyean Dotson
Kings receive: Enes Kanter, Alex Abrines, Raymond Felton
As we know the Knicks are in full tank mode and bringing Zach Randolph back to New York is definitely the last phase of the plan (kidding kind of). Seriously though, this trade helps out all parties involved, the Knicks are dumping Courtney Lee and Enes Kanter while the Thunder get three good role players for their playoff push and the Kings get rid of expiring contracts. The Knicks will take on another year of Patterson, but it’s a low number and a sacrifice they have to make. The pain hurts a little less because they will be getting an interesting young player in Hamidou Diallo, while also clearing cap for this summer. The Thunder are getting two good 3-and-D guys with Dotson and Lee, which is something they can use more of with their current roster. Also Noah Vonleh adds depth on the front line and can provide a good bench spark. The Kings get the salary dumps they want without giving up any key role players, they also add a player in Enes Kanter that will provide good frontcourt depth for a possible 8th seed playoff push. The Kings are a team with so many young pieces and moving all these expiring contracts allows them some flexibility to make more moves at the trade deadline.
