Trade Deadline Marathon: Day 5.1
Sacramento Kings receive - Otto Porter Jr.
Washington Wizards receive - Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert, Skal Labissiere and a 2nd round pick
Why the Kings Would do it - The Kings are winning games this year. They have a real chance to make the playoffs this year, but it won't be easy in the brutal western conference. The Kings biggest need is at the small forward position and in this trade they would get one of the best small forwards on the market in Otto Porter Jr.
Sacramento doesn’t have it’s first round pick this season, so they have no incentive to tank and they haven’t made the playoffs in twelve years, so now is the time to go for it. Sacramento has the cap space to absorb Porter’s contract and he would be an immediate on court upgrade.
Porter is still young and has yet to hit his ceiling. In Sacramento, he would grow with the Kings young core of De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield and Marvin Bagley.
Why the Wizards Would do it - Washington is a dumpster fire going nowhere this season. The team needs to rebuild, and that starts with opening up some cap space.
Washington will get the most back with Bradley Beal, but the above deal has the team unloading its biggest contract. In return, the Wizards get three expiring contracts, which will give them much-needed breathing room.
From there, Washington could buy out the veterans Zach Randolph or Iman Shumpert, or possibly flip Shumpert again to a contender. Skal Labissiere is a nice young player, too. They also get a second round pick in this deal.
