How Monta Ellis Can Help George Hill

The Indiana Pacers are in transition…literally. Their 2015 offseason saw the team lose staples Roy Hibbert and David West in an attempt to play faster. What better way to usher in the new era of Pacers basketball than to sign one of the most dynamic backcourt scorers in the league; Monta Ellis.
Ellis is entering his 12th NBA season with his fourth different franchise. Every stop during his NBA journey, he’s been a reliable scorer. It’s a great fit, a scorer on a team that needs scoring, but what you may not realize is that Monta is a blessing for George Hill.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of Hill; he’s more of a shooting guard than a point guard. He’s careless with the basketball and struggles to get in a groove offensively on a nightly basis. With that being said; Ellis is the type of guard who prefers the ball in his hand. If the ball handling duties are now split, Ellis will be able to penetrate and dish the ball out to Hill to be more of a spot-up shooter, something Hill does fairly well.
George Hill should remain a third, or even a fourth scoring option because he isn’t able to produce much on his own offensively. Ellis will help take a lot of pressure off Hill, giving him the chance to really flourish and play to his strengths.
