“The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has acquired forward Ersan Ilyasova from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for forwards Caron Butler and Shawne Williams.
"Ersan Ilyasova is a player we have coveted since we got to Detroit," said Stan Van Gundy, Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations for the Detroit Pistons. "Not only is he a proficient three-point shooter that can stretch the floor, he is a high-energy, hard-playing guy who fits extremely well with how we want to play. We are excited about what he can add to our team."” - via NBA.com
This isn’t a huge trade, but it still could have an impact. Acquiring Ersan Ilyasova gives the Pistons a little insurance in the event they lose Greg Monroe in free agency.
Or maybe they retain Monroe and Ilyasova comes off the bench. Regardless Ilyasova will add outside shooting and energy to this Detroit team, two things they can use.
On the Milwaukee side, they add two veteran bench players, who at times have been serviceable off the bench. But don’t get confused, they are not players you want to rely on. Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports mentions these players will likely be waived, giving they have non-guaranteed contracts. That will give the Bucks 22 million-dollars in cap-space, plenty of money to make a splash.
