Jacque Vaughn is no longer the coach of the Orlando Magic. After 10 straight losses the Magic decided to fire him. Here are some details below –
“The Orlando Magic have fired coach Jacque Vaughn.
Vaughn, 39, was informed of the decision on Thursday in Orlando, ending his tenure less than three years after his hiring. The Magic are 15-37 this season.
The players were informed at a meeting at 1 p.m. EST.
Assistant coach James Borrego will become the interim head coach.
Scott Skiles, a popular ex-Orlando Magic player and former head coach with Phoenix, Chicago and Milwaukee, has emerged as a serious candidate to eventually take over as head coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Orlando will consider his possible hiring during the All-Star break next week, or could possibly wait until season's end and do an extended search. Nevertheless, the firing of three assistant coaches Thursday – Wes Unseld Jr., Brett Gunning and Zack Guthrie – as reported by the Orlando Sentinel, suggests a new head coach could come sooner than later.” Via Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo
This is no surprise, due to the fact the Magic were on a 10 game skid and they aren’t a terrible team. They have managed wins against the Suns, Hawks, Bulls, and Rockets. They also have some great young pieces, such as Elfrid Payton, Victor Oladipo, Nikola Vucevic, and Tobias Harris. Given a little more time to develop and the right coach, the Magic could easily blossom into a solid playoff team in a year or two.
It will be interesting to see which candidate the Magic decide on and how he fits with this young core.
