Early Offense: Vol. 10 NBA Finals Edition

It was all good just a week ago. This time last week, we here at Off the Glass were super geeked to get the 2017 Finals, also known as Cavs/Warriors III, started. After some awesome individual performances during the regular season, and a few dud series during the playoffs, we finally arrived at the place where everyone thought we’d be. Then the Finals started and holy cow, the Warriors were not messing around. In Game 1, the Warriors dismantled the Cavaliers by a score of 11

Finally. To swagger jack from former WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, finally…..the Finals have COME BACK ….to Oracle. After the revelation of arguably the second-best player in the world joining forces with a team that won 73 regular season games the previous season, the 2016-2017 NBA season was off and running. We’ve seen historic individual accomplishments and witnessed the development of some of the Association’s up and coming talent. But in the end, all the accolades

Celtic Pride. The Boston Celtics did not have a lot going for them heading into Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loan Arena last night. They were without all-star guard Isaiah Thomas, who is out for the remainder of the postseason due to injury. The Cavaliers owned the Celtics in Games 1 and 2, with Game 2 getting so out of hand, that TNT had to tag it with a TV-MA rating. But in a performance that would make Hondo proud, the

Western Conference Finals. For all the mediocre basketball fans endured during the playoffs, their faith was rewarded with a thrilling Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors. Actually, for about three and a half quarters, the game wasn’t a game at all, as the visiting Spurs imposed their will and got up on the defending Western Conference champs by as many as 25 at one point. But as fate would have it, the fortunes of b

Collision Course. The first round of the NBA play-offs had the feel of the opening weekend of March Madness: there were storylines (Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas), potential upsets (a number of lower seeds taking commanding series’ leads over their higher seeded counterparts), and the proverbial coming out parties of talented players and coaches (Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale respectively). But as we have moved to t

Round Two. One of the beauties of the NBA playoffs is that it often crowns a “true champion”, i.e. the better team usually wins a series and ultimately, the championship. We seem to be headed on the same path this year. After a first round full of drama and upset potential, the higher seeds flexed their collective muscles and advanced to the second round. The one “upset” of the first round saw the 5th seeded Utah Jazz defeat the 4th seeded Los Angeles Clippers in seven games.

I don’t **** with you. Before we dive in to all the juicy goodness that is the second week of the NBA playoffs, we thought we’d update our readers on the New York Knicks basketball situation: it is, um, not good. In a press conference that amounted to the Blame Game of the highest order, Knicks President Phil Jackson set fire to his relationship with all-star forward Carmelo Anthony. Anthony’s days in New York have gone from numbered to all but over. All that is left to decid

Welp. Last week’s NBA Game of the Week featured what was to be an Eastern Conference Finals preview, pitting the tenacious Boston Celtics against the beleaguered defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. This game was supposed to showcase the susceptibility of the champs and serve as Exhibit A that the King’s reign over the Eastern Conference was finally coming to an end. Instead, Lebron James reminded us for the fifty eleventh time, (to borrow a phrase from the Ying-Yang Twins

“Getting you going off the glass and into this week in hoops.” The Play-offs are coming. There is still some jockeying to be done, but the play-offs (aka the part that of the season everyone says is the most important) are fast approaching. The Golden State Warriors are starting to look like the team that won 73 games last season and should get Kevin Durant back this week. The Cavaliers have not fared as well over the last few weeks. March was a bad month, they are in danger
